THE PRINT NOTES / PLANNING GUIDE

Planning decals for a vehicle

Start with the vehicle surface and placement before choosing the artwork size.

Choose a considered placement

Identify the exact panel or glass area and record the available dimensions. Photograph the surface straight on, including seams, curves and nearby trim. Keep designs away from lights, plates, safety markings and areas needed for visibility.

Describe whether the surface is original paint, a repainted panel, textured plastic or glass. The same adhesive should not be assumed suitable for every finish.

Specify the application conditions

Include expected outdoor exposure, washing methods and the intended length of use. Ask the supplier to confirm the material, adhesive, finish, application method and removal process for that combination.

A vehicle graphic may use printed film, cut lettering or another transfer construction. Clarify whether a carrier or application tape is needed and who will install it. Installation instructions must come from the selected construction.

Review before a production run

Check artwork at the real dimensions and confirm that its layout suits the panel shape. A representative sample on the intended surface is more useful than a screen image for assessing fit. Start with 1,000 per design and specification; price, manufacturing suitability and timing remain subject to review.
